No Buy 3 MONTH UPDATE: 10 Days To Go // Bea Cassidy

Hello everyone!

My name is Bea and welcome back to the blog.

Wow – I have now not purchased or acquired makeup for 3 MONTHS and there is just 10 DAYS TO GO in my No Buy. WHAT?! Needless to say, this 100 Day No Buy has been an incredible thing for me, but more on that in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS, on Thursday 19th November.

1. How do you feel when you go to put on makeup?

I have felt the need to wear the amount of makeup that is practical for the daily activities. Very little for school and more for performance gigs or going out.

2. How many empties have you accumulated over the last 2 weeks? (skincare, fragrance and makeup)

I have gathered up four empties.

One scrub: the Formula 10.0.6 Three Times Sublime 3-in-1 Blackhead Wash + Scrub + Mask 100mL

Two moisturisers: Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser 125mL and the Nivea Creme (when I ran out of my Sukin, I thought I’d use up what other moisturisers I had, before Mum purchased me a new Sukin Moisturiser. I know that Nivea isn’t cruelty-free, but I thought, ‘Waste not, want not.’)

A deodorant: Rexona Clinical Protection Gentle Dry 45mL (I know that this also is not cruelty-free, but it is the only deodorant that I have tried that has actually worked. I am on the hunt for a cruelty-free or vegan deodorant that is as effective as the Rexona one). If you know of any great animal-friendly deodorants, let me know in the comments!

3. Which products do you expect to finish by the end of No Buy?

Peach Lily is truly failing me right now; it’s becoming increasingly difficult to apply (as there’s so little product left), but I used it on Thursday as a cream blush / cheek tint and it was absolutely stunning.

4. List your fortnightly faves.

  1. Mascara? Innoxa Lash Define Mascara in Brown Black
  2. Eyeshadow / eyeshadow palette? Innoxa Eyeshadow Palette in Daytime Neutrals
  3. Base product? Natio Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20 in Neutral
  4. Moisturiser? Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser
  5. Lipstick? Nude By Nature Natural Mineral Lipstick in Chique
  6. Lip Gloss? Designer Brands Cosmetics Lavish Lip Gloss in Pink Rose
  7. Fragrance? The Body Shop Madagascan Vanilla Flower Eau de Toilette (50mL)

5. What are the positives and negatives of your No Buy thus far?

Positives: I am LOVING my capsule makeup collection and have saved God-knows-how-much money that I would have undoubtedly spent on makeup, if not for my No Buy.

Negatives: I don’t have any. I’ve learned that I can still get a similar effect from swatching or watching hauls or tutorials on YouTube, without having to splash out on products.

6. Did you trash / pass on anything over these last 2 weeks?

No.

I have added a seventh question to my No Buy Updates because I am a stickybeak and love to know what products people are interested in purchasing.

No Buy 6 WEEK UPDATE: 58 Days To Go // Bea Cassidy

Hello everyone!

This week is my first week of holidays (THANK GOD IT’S FINALLY HERE) and as you may or may not know, I am in Melbourne! (I lied; I am writing this beginning bit on Friday afternoon, 18th September, while I am at school – my Science teacher is absolutely lovely. As it is our last day, he let us do as we pleased, once we’d finished our test).

My sister and I jumped on the train at 9.21am at our local train station on Tuesday 22nd September and arrived in Melbourne at 6.30pm that night.

We are going home on the Monday (but we will be asleep when this post goes live at 2am AEST), but depending on where you live and if you read this, we will be sleeping, be on the train or be back at home.

1. How do you feel when you go to put on makeup?

As I’ve said in pretty much every single one of my Updates, I look forward to applying my makeup more and more, with every passing day. I get excited by the thought of picking out a lipstick, as I love them *all and it can be a challenge to decide which one to wear.

I have also been really finding out which makeup styles / looks look best on me and what to stay away from (no matter how good it looks on Monica (DaynNight25), Ami (foreverFreexoAmi), Hannah (hannahyep), Kylie Jenner, Shannon (Shaaanxo), Fleur (Fleur de Force), Lily (Lily Pebbles), Jerusha (JerushaCouture), Chloe Morello, Ella Victoria, Sharon (Sharonthemakeupartist) – the list goes on).

“*all” = *Except for a couple, which are on the firing line*

2. How many empties have you accumulated over the last 2 weeks? (skincare, fragrance and makeup)

Two shampoos, one deodorant …

3. Which products do you expect to finish by the end of No Buy?

My Australis lipstick in Ballet will probably be close to the end of its life and my Sukin Moisturiser is on its last legs. (Thanks to The Sister for letting me ‘borrow’ some of her Regular Facial Moisturiser).

4. List your fortnightly faves.

  1. Mascara? Innoxa Lash Define Mascara in Brown Black =  it’s the only one I own and is the best mascara that I’ve ever owned. ** I cannot confirm or deny that when my No Buy is up, I might make a little mascara purchase from Too Faced, though. **
  2. Eyeshadow / eyeshadow palette? Innoxa Eyeshadow Palette in Daytime Neutrals, BUT the dark brown eyeshadow has cracked and leaves little “I’ve been here” messages wherever it goes. 😦
  3. Base product? Natio Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20 in Neutral
  4. Moisturiser? Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser
  5. Lipstick? Nude By Nature Natural Mineral Lipstick in Chique
  6. Lip Gloss? Innoxa Antioxidant Lip Glaze in Guava
  7. Fragrance? The Body Shop Madagascan Vanilla Flower Eau de Toilette (50mL)

5. What are the positives and negatives of your No Buy thus far?

Positives: I am learning more and more what looks good on me and more importantly, what I like on me. I’ve learned that I prefer subtle eye makeup over extravagant, fluro eyes (but you do you!). I like a bold lip, within reason. Something that is still – even in a miniscule way – wearable and – dare I say it – natural. Safe. I’ve found that it’s true – wear as light of a base as you can get away with. If you don’t find yourself gifted with angry pimples, don’t go with a full-coverage foundation. Instead, opt for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. My skin is *normally fairly clear (I’m very lucky!), so a TM works great for me.

*Except when Aunt Flow comes to town … :/

Also, saving money. Albeit, my holiday budget is going to be a little tight, after being in Melbourne for a week, but there’s definitely more money in my wallet, than there would have been if I wasn’t on a No Buy.

Negatives: That little rush when you buy some new cosmetics, BUT I have realised (partial thanks to hannahyep) that I can still get that same enjoyment just by swatching and trying-on in the store. So, on Friday after meeting up with Monica, Ami and Hannah, I went into Priceline and had a little swatching frenzy and it was freaking fantastic! AND I found my perfect soft corally pink lipstick. AND it’s only $4.95. AND it’s cruelty-free. #winnerwinnerchickendinner

(I can’t remember the shade name).

** I have trashed various cosmetics over my No Buy, but I began getting rid of makeup before that. I thought you might be interested in what I get rid of, so I’ve introduced a sixth question for my No Buy UPDATES. **

6. Did you trash / pass on anything over these last 2 weeks?

**I haven’t yet gotten rid of my Designer Brands Longwear Lipstick in 671 Lilac Mist yet, as it looked very pretty on; it’s on trial. To be completely honest, though, I don’t know why I’m holding on to it. I say that it would look really nice with a black smokey eye, but a) I don’t own black / silver eyeshadows and b) the lipstick is super duper frosty and when I apply it, I tend to take it off straightaway. :/ **

Yes, I went through my makeup collection and got rid of 4 lipsticks and one nail polish.

  • TRASH Natio Nail Colour in French
  • PASS ON (The Sister) Australis Colour Inject Moisturising Mineral Lipstick in Salsa
  • PASS ON (The Sister)  ModelsPrefer in Peach Ice Tea
  • PASS ON (hannahyep) Australis Colour Inject Moisturising Mineral Lipstick in Super Crump
  • TRASH Innoxa Satin Sheen Lipstick in Poppy

** I live in Australia and as we are in the Southern Hemisphere, we are the opposite to you guys up in the North. So when I say it’s Spring, I mean that it’s Spring where I live. When I say that it’s warm, I mean that it’s warm where I live.

No Buy 1 MONTH UPDATE: 72 Days To Go // Bea Cassidy

I’m back! Sorry for not posting much in the last 2 weeks. School had to take priority. So much for a new posting schedule. Let’s see how that goes, shall we?

Also, do not fret when I do not link to a makeup / fragrance / skincare product; it means that it’s part of my Collection. Visit The Collection. 🙂

On to the questions!

1. How do you feel when you go to put on makeup?

I get very excited (as always). I feel more connected to my makeup, if that makes sense. I appreciate it more and am better at distinguishing a trend / impulse purchase, from what actually looks good on me. (Although this can be heartbreaking, it’s necessary).

2. How many empties have you accumulated over the last 2 weeks? (skincare, fragrance and makeup)

Only 2 more since the 2 Week Update. Very boring. Hardly worth mentioning, in fact. A Dove and Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo.

3. Which products do you expect to finish by the end of No Buy?

As I said in my 2 Week Update, I’m sure that ‘Ballet’ will reach its end.

4. List your fortnightly faves.

  1. Mascara? Innoxa Lash Define Mascara in ‘Brown Black’ = This is easy, as I only have one and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
  2. Eyeshadow / eyeshadow palette? Innoxa Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Daytime Neutrals’ = Perfect four shades for every skin tone. I love the copper shadow to line my upper lash line, a cool alternative to the bog-standard black.
  3. Base product? Natio Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20 in ‘Neutral’
  4. Moisturiser? Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser = Need I say more?!
  5. Lipstick? Innoxa Satin Sheen Lipstick in ‘Peach Lily’
  6. Lip Gloss? Innoxa Antioxidants Lip Glaze in ‘Guava’
  7. Fragrance? The Body Shop’s Madagascan Vanilla Flower Eau De Toilette (50mL)

5. What are the positives and negatives of your No Buy thus far?

Positives: Saving money, particularly because I was able to get Dad a Father’s Day prezzie AND because The Sister and I are going to Melbourne in … 16 days! It’s quicker and easier for me to get ready in the morning and I’m learning to ‘shop my stash’ (a la Stash Matters).

Negatives: I miss going into Priceline, but I have a little wish list going.See you in a fortnight for my next Update!

No Buy 2 WEEK UPDATE: 86 Days To Go // Bea Cassidy

Hi hunni!

So … it’s now been 2 weeks since my last makeup purchase;  86 days of my No Buy are remaining!

To help track my progress, I’m going to ask myself the same five questions every update, let’s see if / how my answers differ each time.

1. How do you feel when you go to put on makeup?

I am beginning to be not so overwhelmed by my little collection, especially my lipstick stash. Rather, I am enjoying putting on my makeup more.  In the last month or so, I’ve chucked out 1 lip gloss, a liquid lipstick, a mineral illuminator powder  and an eyeshadow & blush palette, as I wasn’t using them / didn’t like the formula / didn’t like the scent (the Natio Mineral Face Illuminator powder – no longer available – had a super strong chemical scent) / didn’t like the colour and so on. Also, my Australis Colour Inject Moisturising Mineral Lipstick in ‘Salsa’ is on death row at the moment – the colour is so bright, it’s drying and difficult to apply.

2. How many empties have you accumulated over the last 2 weeks? (skincare, fragrance and makeup)

I have 5 empties so far, however, only one is makeup-related.

Skincare //

Antipodes Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream (30mL), Sukin Sensitive Calming Night Cream (120mL), The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser (60mL), Formula 10.0.6. Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser with Passionfruit & Green Tea (125mL) and L’Oréal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer (5mL sample).

3. Which products do you expect to finish by the end of No Buy?

I wouldn’t be surprised if I finish my Australis Colour Inject Moisturising Mineral Lipstick in ‘Ballet’ – it’s one of my all-time favourite lippies. Lipstick crisis? Not sure which lipstick to wear? #Balletalwayswins

Beauty Care Co SPF 50+ Sunscreen Lotion = Provides more than double the sun protection than my Natio Tinted Moisturiser and easy to slap on / no blending required.
  4. Moisturiser? Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser = Need I say more?!
  5. Lipstick? Innoxa Classic Colour Lipstick in ‘Boysenberry’ = The perfect reddy/pinky/plummy shade – not too vampy, not too girly.
  6. Lip Gloss? Designer Brands Cosmetics Lavish Lip Gloss in ‘Pink Rose’ = A nice pinky/mauvey/nudey colour that looks great on its own, or over a lippie (I’ve found that it works really nicely with Nude By Nature’s Natural Mineral Lipstick in ‘Chique’ – it gives a more pink tinge, as opposed to a brown).
  7. Fragrance? The Body Shop’s Madagascan Vanilla Flower Eau De Toilette (50mL) = A warm, but not too sweet vanilla that just screams ‘Bea’, but ANYONE will love this scent. Unless you are an alien. Or Tony Abbott.

5. What are the positives and negatives of your No Buy thus far?

Positives: Saving money is a major one (beginning to see a little nest egg developing, with plenty of time to grow big enough to get a Father’s Day pressie for Dad), not stressing out as much when deciding what makeup to wear and not feeling so drawn into stores that sell makeup. I feel less inclined to check Priceline, Mecca and BeautyBay every single day. I am less interested in watching beauty hauls / beauty reviews on YouTube. One funny thing is that I also don’t feel the need to wear so much makeup. Today, for example, I wore no eyeshadow or blush, nor did I draw in my eyebrows. Finally, I’m really enjoying my No Buy. I find it cathartic and feel like I’m helping the environment in some way by not buying, buying, buying; instead, I’m using, using, using what I already have. I see my No Buy as a challenge and find it fun, as if I’m being thrifty with my makeup.

Negatives: I sort-of miss browsing the shelves and that little rush you get when you’ve purchased the items you want and it all belongs to you. *I know that last point in particular is ridiculous, but don’t we all love the feeling of the store bag/s swinging and knowing that we’ve got some new goodies to try out?!*

See you in a fortnight for my next Update!

xx
